Why Families Have Trusted Great American RV for 40+ Years

Buying an RV is about a lot more than choosing a floorplan.

Whether you're searching for a new or used RV, RV financing, a trade-in, RV service and repair, parts and accessories, or help understanding the RV you already own, choosing the right RV dealership can make a difference long after the sale.

At Great American RV SuperStores, we've been helping families with their RV needs for more than 40 years.

What started as one family-owned RV dealership in Hammond, Louisiana in 1984 has grown into 9 Great American RV SuperStores across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.

A lot has changed since then, especially the RVs themselves. But the basic idea behind what we do hasn't.

Help people find the right RV, take care of them after the sale, and help families get out there and make some memories.

A Family-Owned RV Dealership Since 1984

Before there was Great American RV SuperStores, there was Dixie RV SuperStores.

The doors opened in Hammond, Louisiana in 1984 with one dealership and a simple mission: help families find the right RV and treat customers like neighbors.

From there, the company continued growing throughout the Gulf South. In 2021, Dixie RV SuperStores became Great American RV SuperStores.

Today, Great American RV has 9 locations across four states, but we're still a family-owned company doing what we started doing in 1984: helping people go camping.

More than four decades in the RV business also means we've watched RVs change dramatically.

Today's RVs can have solar systems, lithium batteries, inverters, multiplex controls, tankless water heaters, automatic leveling, residential refrigerators, advanced entertainment systems, and technology that wasn't even part of the conversation when we started.

We've had to grow and learn right along with them.

New and Used RVs for Different Ways of Camping

Finding the right RV starts with understanding how you actually plan to use it.

Across our locations, Great American RV offers a wide selection of new and used RVs for sale, including travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, Class A motorhomes, Class B motorhomes, Class C motorhomes, and other RV types across a variety of manufacturers and price points.

But having a lot of RVs doesn't help if you buy the wrong one.

How many people are you sleeping? What are you towing with? Where do you plan to camp? Do you need bunks? An outside kitchen? More cargo capacity? Are you traveling on weekends or spending months on the road?

Those questions matter.

The goal isn't simply to find an RV that looks great sitting on the lot. It's to find one that still makes sense after you've packed it, loaded the family, and headed down the road.

RV Trade-Ins and Financing Options

For many customers, finding the RV is only one part of the buying process.

You may already own an RV that you'd like to trade. You may be trying to determine what monthly payment works for your budget. Or you may simply want to understand your financing options before deciding how much RV you want to purchase.

Our team can help customers evaluate their RV trade-in and explore available RV financing options as part of the buying process.

Financing isn't one-size-fits-all, and neither is RV ownership. Having people who work with RV purchases every day can help you better understand your options before making a decision.

Take Your Time With Your New RV

Taking delivery of a new RV should be exciting.

It can also be a lot to take in.

You're learning how to operate the water system, electrical system, appliances, slides, awnings, leveling system, entertainment equipment, and everything else packed into a modern RV.

That's why we don't want customers to feel like the paperwork is signed, the keys are handed over, and now it's time to hurry out the door.

Great American RV offers overnight camping pads for customers taking delivery of their new RV.

Stay the night.

Get comfortable. Run the air conditioners. Operate the slides. Use the water system. Turn on the TV. Cook something. Figure out where you're going to put everything.

Most importantly, ask questions.

If something doesn't make sense or you forget how a system operates, you're still right there with people who can help.

Your first night in a new RV doesn't have to be hundreds of miles away while you're trying to remember everything you learned during your walkthrough.

Take your time, learn your RV, and leave when you feel comfortable using it.

RV Service and Repair After the Sale

Buying the RV is the beginning of ownership, not the end of your relationship with the dealership.

RVs need maintenance. Appliances occasionally need attention. Seals need to be inspected. Systems need to be serviced. And sooner or later, just about every RV owner has a question that starts with:

"Why is it doing that?"

That's why RV service and repair are such an important part of what we do.

Across Great American RV, we have more than 150 service bays, giving our service teams the ability to assist RV owners with a wide range of service and maintenance needs.

Depending on the RV and service required, that can include routine RV maintenance, warranty repairs, appliance and system diagnosis, plumbing and electrical concerns, roof and seal maintenance, seasonal services, winterization, and other RV repairs.

Our goal is to be somewhere you can turn when your RV needs attention, whether you purchased it yesterday or you've already made years of memories in it.

Investing in RV Service Technicians

Modern RV repair can get complicated quickly.

An RV technician may need to understand 120-volt AC and 12-volt DC electrical systems, propane systems, plumbing, appliances, solar, inverters, batteries, generators, slide rooms, leveling systems, heating and cooling, and increasingly sophisticated electronics.

That's why technician education matters.

Great American RV is an accredited RV Technical Institute training center, allowing us to provide hands-on technician training and certification. We currently have more RVTI-certified technicians than any other dealer in the Priority RV Network.

The RV industry keeps changing, so our technicians have to keep learning too.

RV Parts, Accessories and Camping Stores

Not every RV problem requires an appointment in a service bay.

Sometimes you just need the right part.

Our Camping Stores give RV owners access to RV parts, accessories, maintenance products, camping supplies, and many of the everyday items you need before heading to the campground.

That might be a freshwater hose, sewer fitting, electrical adapter, maintenance product, replacement part, or an accessory that simply makes camping a little easier.

Having RV sales, service, parts, and Camping Stores working together gives customers somewhere to turn throughout RV ownership, not just when they're ready to buy another RV.

Helping You Maintain the RV You Already Own

Taking care of an RV isn't just about repairing something after it breaks.

Preventive maintenance can play a big role in protecting your investment.

Roof and seal inspections, battery maintenance, tire care, appliance service, generator maintenance, air-conditioner care, plumbing-system maintenance, and seasonal services can all be part of responsible RV ownership.

The exact maintenance schedule depends on the RV and equipment installed, which is why we always recommend following the maintenance requirements provided by your RV and component manufacturers.

And when the job is more than you want to tackle yourself, that's where an experienced RV service center can help.

We Want You to Understand Your RV

We also know you're not going to drive to an RV dealership every time you have a question.

Sometimes you just need somebody to show you how something works.

That's one of the reasons we created Helpful Hacks.

Our team produces RV how-to videos, technical walkthroughs, articles, and other resources designed around questions RV owners actually ask.

How do I operate my leveling system?

How do I winterize my RV?

Why isn't my water heater working?

How does this appliance operate?

What maintenance should I be doing?

Those are real ownership questions.

Providing RV education online gives customers another place to turn when they need help, including when the dealership is closed or they're sitting at a campground several states away.

Nine Great American RV Locations

Today, Great American RV has 9 RV dealership locations across Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida.

That gives our customers access to a larger network of inventory, service facilities, technicians, Camping Stores, parts, and RV knowledge.

We're also part of the Priority RV Network, which can provide additional support through a network of independent RV dealerships when customers are traveling away from home.

Because the whole point of owning an RV is leaving home.

Our People Are Part of the Story

Buildings, service bays, and inventory don't create a 40-year company. People do.

Many Great American RV employees have built long careers here. In 2024 alone, more than 30 employees celebrated milestones ranging from 10 to 27 years with the company.

Many of our team members are also RVers themselves.

They camp with their families, tow trailers, attend rallies, visit campgrounds, and experience many of the same things our customers do.

There's a difference between knowing what's printed on a brochure and understanding what happens when you're trying to back into a campsite after dark with everybody in the truck giving you different directions.

We understand why the little things matter because we've been there too.

More Than 40 Years of Helping Happy Campers

It's easy for any RV dealership to say it puts customers first.

We'd rather look at what happens after someone buys their first RV.

Do they come back for RV service?

Do they call when they have a question?

Do they send their friends and family?

And when their family grows, their travel changes, or they're ready for something different, do they come back for their next RV?

Over the last 40+ years, Great American RV has helped more than 100,000 Happy Campers begin their RV adventures.

We've also had customers return again and again as their families, lifestyles, and RV needs changed. One customer has purchased 11 RVs from Great American RV over the years.

Those relationships are a big part of why we've been here for more than four decades.

Recognized Within the RV Industry

We've also been fortunate to receive recognition within the RV industry along the way.

Great American RV has been named an RVBusiness Top 50 Dealer seven times, including recognition in 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.

In 2023, Great American RV received the Gaylord Maxwell Innovation Award, recognizing innovative and creative business practices within the RV industry.

We're proud of those accomplishments, but awards aren't the reason someone buys an RV.

They buy one because there's a campground they want to visit. A national park they've always wanted to see. A football game they don't want to miss. Grandkids several states away. A beach calling their name. Or maybe they just need to get away for the weekend.

That's ultimately what all of this is about.

Your Destination for RV Sales, Service, Parts and More

Making Memories One Weekend at a Time

Back in 2002, our slogan was "Helping You Retire One Weekend at a Time."

When Dixie RV became Great American RV in 2021, that idea evolved into the phrase you'll hear from us today:

"Making Memories One Weekend at a Time."

We think that fits what RVing is really about.

The RV is what gets you there.

What matters is what happens after you arrive.

Whether you're buying your first travel trailer, trading for a fifth wheel, shopping for a motorhome, looking for an RV part, scheduling service, or coming back for your next RV, our team is here to help.

Visit one of our 9 Great American RV SuperStores locations and come see why families have trusted us with their RV needs for more than 40 years.

Great American RV SuperStores, making memories one weekend at a time.
